BACKGROUND NOTES

The Torres Clan

  • Mother - Prabsa: klingon, Daughter of the House of Torg, married to Antonio Torres. (NB - I have used Prabsa, which was the name originally given to B'Elanna's mother in the Star Trek novel Pathways, rather tha Miral. I think it fitted this character better.)

Other information:
The Klingon Empire.
An empire founded on conquest and the military prowess of the Klingon people. The empire conquered Earth in the early 22nd Century shortly after humanity achieved warp drive. The originally authoritarian and brutal regime has mellowed over the centuries and subject peoples have become citizens of the empire rather than slaves. There is however still a great deal of inequity. Technology has not advanced as much as in the canon universe. This is a problem for the empire as some of its rivals are outstripping it technologically. There is no transporter technology. Ships are slower and there is only very primitive holographic technology. The empire does have cloaking devices.

Solar Trade Federation.
A loose trading federation of mainly, though not entirely, human colonies within the Klingon empire. A system of elected delegates which provides the legislative backbone for trade and commerce. Member planets are wealthy. The Federation has political ambitions beyond being a very successful free trade area.

ITEC - Interplanetary Trade Enforcement Corp.
A largely human police force. They are charged with defending the empire from smugglers, drug-runners, trading violations and tax-dodgers. They are under-staffed, widely ignored, imperfectly supported by the Klingon military and trying to do the impossible.
